What happened on the pitch is a simple reflexion of what happens in society today, you just need to look at this notice board to see that. It’s about time we all took responsibility for how we should conduct ourselves.

I think both players should be forced to give one another a public apology for their behavior and severe repercussions should be put in place to deal with future verbal or physical abuse at ALL levels of the sport, that means trainers aswell (Mr Aragones).

There should be no acceptable form of abuse in a civilized society.

Oh, I agree with you completely...and just finished reading an article on an interview with Zidane about what happened. There are also comments from Materazzi about what happened...take a look, and notice that FIFA is launching an investigation into exactly what happened. I have to applaud them for that, but I don't think it will change the outcome, in the end....

hmmmm civilized?? come one! What world are you living in???! Look at France a few months ago, the rioting and what not....most people got away with that...secondly these are "soccer stars" and they are rich and they will get away with it...they are getting the publicity and if i may ask this, what's in the news now, is it Zidane's head butt or Italy winning the world cup? Nobody cares right now, they wanna hear about Zidane's head butting incident. The world has gone to the dogs!

how about strip both player's world champion title and golden shoe. if that...THEN THE AWARD GOES TO GERMANY!!!

- you rarely see Germans cheats or give out verbal insults. Both France and Italy are bunch of m-fu-ckers. But I rather support France than Italy. But I think Zidane deserves the golden ball, he outshined everyone in the tournmanet and he uplifted the whole French nation and his team...he is the best even his stupid violent action against the idioitic italian.

A. This is not a question

B. Trash Talking is part of the sport. If you cannot keep your calm, you end up headbutting people and getting a red card. I am not saying it's nice, but mind games happen in sports all the time.

just a correction.. materazzi did speak and admitted that he insulted Zidane but denied saying what rumours suggest that he said. having lost his own mother at 15, he said that mothers are sacred and he'd never say anything about Zidane's mother. Also, he admitted his ignorance and stated that the only terrorist he knows is his 1o month old daughter and so he would never call zidane a terrorist. Just for the record. Materazzi also said that he idolized zidane growing up. he did insult him... there's no denying it but two wrongs dont' make a right.
