I would like to try Ebay's auctions sometime. However, I am quite cautious on my account info being compromised (in other words, I send out some kind of personal information, and somebody uses it for some "unknown" purpose, you know, identity theft or some such.) What is the safest way to send money if I win an auction, or if I buy the item? Is it personal check? Paypal?(Whatever that means) Or something else? Please respond!

I have used ebay for more than 10 years now. The only safe way is to trust your seller. ALWAYS check feedback because their feedback is their reputation.

Paypal is the best way because it provides seller and buyer protection. It means if you are not happy with your item, you will definitely get your money refunded. Never pay cash. Check and money order is risky, but if the seller has a good feedback, I wouldnt worry.

Don't do a personal check. Do Paypal. Paypal links to a credit card or bank account, but the seller does not see any of your personal account info.

Before bidding on item, look at how many (if any) items the person has previously sold & look at the person's rating. Previous buyers can leave feedback for the seller, so avoid sellers that have a lot of negative comments. There are some scammers on eBay, but in my experience, most sellers are fairly honest.

To be honest, no matter what method you use there are is no way to be absolutely sure that your info is not compromised. I had an experience where I bought a "fake" purse that was advertised as genuine and paid for it through PayPal. The seller used several different addresses and I returned the fake purse to the original address. He stated that he never received the returned purse even after I provided PayPal with a copy of the delivery notice. Ebay banned the seller but that still did not get me my $200 back.

Pay pal or a similar service is the best, because there is no shared information with the other party, just a notification that the item has been paid for. Be advised to check on the seller or buyers feedback, and don't just check a couple out, you may find out the buyer or seller doesn't always stick by their sale. 100 in the feedback is a perfect record, but don't let that fool you, you should still read some feedback. Be sure to remember shipping and handling fees.

Payment wise paypal is a great option. No personal information is given out, including your address unless you wish it to be. Also noone has access to your credit card # except paypal/ebay. Look into it at paypal.com

The only real problem with security on ebay is pure stupidity. Never give your ebay account information or personal information out and neither will ebay. Most commonly (and the reason its in the press often) scammers will pretend to be ebay or paypal and ask you for personal information to verifiy account information, etc, and users give up this information freely. Never type in your password for paypal or ebay unless you've specifically gone to ebay.com or paypal.com.

the first thing you must to is to check the seller's or buyer's ratings. he must have a rating of 95% to 100%. if he has a negative feedback, read them. paying actually depends on the seller. if you won an auction, you must email the seller about the payment details. basically, you won't be duped on your purchase if the seller or buyer has a good feedback from other people. getting a good feedback or reputation is difficult and time consuming so i doubt if someone with 95% to 100% feedback will fool you. and also, you can always report the seller or buyer to ebay if the transaction goes wrong.

I believe you can use a charge card. What i do for buying anything on the internet is i use this little card that looks like a credit card, cept you (or anyone who steals it) can only spend how much is on it...its like a gift card with a credit number. so say u get the card and put $30 onto it. u can purchase something under $30. but if someone stole it, they would only be able to use just $30 and nothing else. I believe that just about every card company can give you a charge card. mine is a visa.

Paypal offers protection, but in over 150 purchases, I've only been burned once, and that was my own fault. The great majority of merchants on E Bay are honest. As is true anywhere, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Well you could just get your friends to bid and win but this is called shill bidding. Why don't you trade normally and get your feedback properly. When I buy I look at more than feedback, if a person has only bought penny books or small items I am suspicious straight away
