How do you think the U.S. occupation in Iraq breeds war crimes?

“ONE THING is for certain,” George Bush said 18 months ago in a speech about Iraq’s future. “There won’t be any more mass graves and torture rooms and rape rooms.”

That turned out to be another grotesque lie--because of the war crimes committed by the U.S. occupiers. In the months since, revelations of U.S. soldiers committing mass killings, torture in Abu Ghraib and other detention facilities, and now rape have only become more pronounced in their brutality.

There is no an excuse for our soldiers to commit these horrendous acts but maybe it's because they are so young and they're being sent back 2 and sometimes 3 times. They're probably seeing things people should never witness. I support the troops 100% but I don't believe we ever should have been there in the first place. Also we have to remember the ones who are doing these things are not the majority it's a very small segment of our Armed Forces.

First of all I think that the public has a grave misperception of what war actually is. The so called liberal media were some of the Iraq War's biggest cheerleaders, especially in its initial phase.

The type of war that is being fought in Iraq is what breeds atrocities. While it is true that in any group of the population that is sent to war there will be some "bad seeds," a war of insurgency leads to fear. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate....bah.....you get the point. When people are afraid and they have a gun, they tend to shoot things, break things, use power to combat what they fear.

So, all the allegations are true, you've assumed all the soldiers are liars, guilty as charged. All the accusers are telling the truth. Everything the dnCBS "news" says is the truth. Howard Dean is calm and incapable of misleading people.

The U.S, invasion on IRAQ IS a war crime. What if N. Korea pre-emptively shot a nuclear warhead at the U.S. and hit california, because it was felt that the U.S. had too many nuclear war heads and was a threat to them?.....would you consider N. Korea's leader to be a war criminal? Well the U.S. did the same thing in IRAQ.....only we didn't use a nuclear warhead.

Yes we have service men that have been accused of crimes (rape and murder) but they are on trial (you know innocent until proven guilty) as for the mass killings where do you get that from I would like some documentation.
