More than the ball, it is the spots where they touch inside that can get dirty.

Turn over your mouse and you will see a circle around the mouse ball. Turn it to open.

When it is open the ball falls out and you can that it is not dirty, but the 3 spots where it touches inside the mouse will likely have some gunk wrapped around the rollers. Scrape that off and try to get it all out (you don't need a piece of schmutz clogging up another part of it). When all 3 rollers are smooth, pop the clean ball back in and close the ring.

Should be good as new, though some say once you do this you have to do it repeatedly, since the original seal is now broken it is easier for stuff to get in. I don't agree with this. I do it all the time on all my machines (every couple of months I guess - maybe every 6 months sometimes) and I haven't had to buy a replacement yet.

Peace!

Remove the mouse ball from the bottom of the mouse, but be sure computer is off first. Inside, you will see some rollers in the mouse, usually with dirt, and "stuff" on them. Remove any dirt on the rollers with a damp cloth, not wet. Wipe the ball as well, BUT, do not use soap on it, it will ruin the ball. Then, put everything back together, and try the mouse. It should work much better afterwards.

Yes, mouse likes his balls washed once in a while.

Just take the ball out from the bottom of the mouse. Take a papertowel or a q-tip and then swab inside the mouse. There are three destinct areas in your mouse that the ball touches that makes the cursor move, you will want to clean those three areas as carefully as you can and take all the gunk out.

Then just clean the balls with water or windex and then give him his ball back.

Since you started being very 'catty'!?

Q-tip with some rubbing alcolol, dissolves the dead skin cells accumulated on the pressure wheel, and the two movement rollers, and then, I would also address the ball, BUT, the balls often contain genuine NATURAL RUBBER! The ONLY cleanser that won't cause the rubber to crack and shrink, is mild soap and water!

BUT, if it is a goner, you can order a special five pound box of mice from http://cheapbytes.com for $cheap! I did, and they all work just fine! 5 pounds, equals about 13 mice! Some are Serial, and some are PS2, and some have three buttons.

Perfect for the older computers! And, for Linux!

Then, when you notice it all working again, wouldn't you like the whole system to run 8X faster? Like buying a new, faster computer, but, for FREE?

Get http://pclinuxos.com and play with it, and, if you like the 1,600 programs, games, etc., just press the 'Install' icon!

I'm sorry, but your question is too funny.......yes the roller ball can be cleaned. there is a retaining ring on the bottom. twist it to remove and the ball will fall right out. clean the ball, and the contacts inside with alcohol. put the ball back in and reattach the retaining ring. optical mice don't have roller balls and last a long time. they are usually inexpensive for a basic one

You can clean out the ball...but it is always going to just get dirty again. I HIGHLY recommend switching to a wireless optical mouse. They aren't very expensive anyore. Trust me, you'll love it and never want to go back.
