I work 40hrs or more during a normal work week. iam 7 mos pregnant and there a days at work that a harder than others. when i dont feel 100% i ask to either leave early or take a day off. my boss does not understand how important rest is for me at these times. is there any laws that allow days off during pregnancy before maternity leave?

There are no laws in place that I am aware of. But I agree with the earlier answer. They cannot force you to work against a MD order. Get a note!

Unless the company you work for has a specific policy that handles pregnancy then no, there are no laws covering the time before you give birth at least not in the US. With that said though, if your doctor does agree you should take it easy and not work as many hours, he/she can write a note and your boss should abide by it. Realize it is time off without pay. Also, once the baby is born you are entitled to 12 weeks FMLA (unpaid medical leave) and your company has to have a job waiting for you. Not necessarily the same job you were performing when you left, though.

Only with a doctor's excuse. My doctor shortened my work week to 30-35 hours, so on most days I left an hour or two early.

A doctor's excuse is handled in a different way - something like "short term disability" - you then have a choice if you wish to use your personal time, or without pay.

I would get a doctor's note (most understand the need for naps, and will gladly give one), and cut out your lunch hour, and leave early. It's better for the baby if you're well rested.

If you don't want to take maternity leave early, maybe you could get your OBGYN to write a letter saying that you need certain times off.

During my pregnancy, I was the same way. I CONSTANTLY called in and left early. It doesn't look good on your work record, and unfortunatly, some bosses just don't understand.

What I did is filled out my shift availability. Saying I could only work nights (because I got morning sickness), and requesting Wednesdays off.

This availibility form should be available to you, because if someone needs a day off for religious reasons, they are entitled to it off. Same as if you're in school and need to work around a class schedule.

I'd check and see if your work has one and fill it out. You need to take care of yourself!

Depends upon where you work, every work place is different on how much time is allowed, and how much time you can take with pay. Most companies offer 6 wks. But not always with pay. You will have to check out the benefits at the company you work for. Tell your doctor how you are feeling and maybe he will give you a doctors excuse for time off, again check your benefits to see if you can take it with pay.

Im not quite sure but I dont think so. But hopefully your boss will be more understandable once your further along your pregnancy and after you give birth cause for sure there would be more call in later.....well hopefully you feel better and you wont have to keep on taking time off.

You are not allowed any more time off that a non pregnant person. You should consider taking an early LOA. You can have up to 12 weeks for FLMA.

speak to your local citizens advice or midwife, they can advise you on maternity rights - know there are some you can get. If your not able to, just have a sick day - can have 5 days statutory before you need a dr's note - if worse comes to worse, get gp to sign you off for a week, undue stress!!!

you and your baby come first!!!

I don't know, but it should be made into a law if it hasn't already...

Maybe you could explain to your boss and tell him how the work is tiring you out on some days...
