The combined British-Dutch-Belgian armies with Prussian support were commanded by Lord Arthur Wellesly, known as the 1st Duke of Wellington. His leadership led to the final defeat of Napolean at the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815.
Also of note, he was born in Ireland and eventually became Prime Minister. He was born on May 1, 1769 and died Sept. 14 1852.
