you know, i've been wondering that same thing myself. I'm not trying to sound racist, and I'm not, but i think the reason it's such a big deal is because the African-American (I'm being politically correct here) population plays the racism card. "Our ancestors were slaves so we should have as many advantages as possible, and it's the white folks are being racist if they try to get an advantage over us" It's the same reason black people can call each other "the N word" and call white people "crackers" but if a white person were to call a black person "the N word" it becomes a racism issue.
Now I'm not taking anything away from the Hurricane Katrina victims, but when all that was going on I was reading about how President Bush is racist (I don't know if he is or not, I could care less about politics) and he let the hurricane hit only black people. And the media is racist because they only showed black people robbing stores and all of the rest of the stuff that was going on down there.
So basically the reason why it's racist to have a WET is because the African American population says it is. That's it, nothing more. There is absolutly no justification for that reasoning other than it is.
I also want to state that I'm not trying to cause any contraversy (sp?), and I'm not "hating" on the black people.
Hope this answered your question.

I am so glad someone had the balls to ask this question!!! You know what MOST people have been writing is true, ie if white people tried to have white college spring break, white miss America,"WET", white history month, etc. I could go on FOREVER, we would be being racist. How come there is "black" Miss America and the blacks still participate in the "regular" Miss America contest??? I don't think that anyone is owed anything just because their ancestors were slaves. If they have a problem with the issue of slavery then they should go back to Africa and take it up with the ancestors of the other Africans that sold them to the white man as slaves. Our ancestors didn't start slavery they just carried it on to "the new world". Again not our fault. Oh and while some of you were on the subject of being politically correct;why African-Americans?? I don't go around saying that I'm European-American just because my great-grandparents were from Europe. People can be so stupid sometimes, but the worst part is that we let it happen.

Way have the ***** college fund, black Miss America, all black colleges and then call someone trying to do something for whites a racist? It is a bunch of Bulls@#t. Plain and simple. There ain't one good excuse below me so look no further.

BET is one station aimed at the black community the other one million stations ARE white entertainment. For example, VH-1(except late at night and behind the music occasionally), CMT, MTV(although you kind folks allow us one hour a day on a week day and half-a-day on the weekends), golf channel, fishing channel, sport shooting channel, etc...Basically you have all the channels. FYI we are not referred to as NEGROES anymore....here's a suggestion stop watching TV and pick up a newspaper, or a book!! The question you should be asking yourself is why does every race have a rich, pride filled history except one? One which is plagued by thievery, treachery, violence, jealousy, rape, genocide, murder. Probably because of their "entertainment choices"....

the ***** community?? you STILL call Black people ******???
People dont call Black people "*****'s" nor do they call black people "Colored" This AINT the 1950's
* Call people what they call themselves, which is: Black,
African,or African-American, or just simply American!
Now to address your question which was:"So why can't there be a channel to entertain whites ?" WHO said that there COULDNT??????
W.E.T. was Your idea....If you've got the money to start it up ,then Go for it! there aint no law against it!
***P.S. (If you actually do start it one day,..and it's successful ,Then remember me..I'm the one that told you to go for it ,..$200-$1000 would be nice.)

There is one. It's called CBS, lol. Anyways. Why can't we have a White History Month, eh? It's all bullshit, we're supposed to let things be or we're racist. But they can bash white people all damn day, and they're just voicing an opinion. Other races can be racist too. If we say something about being white, it's White Power! and we're being mean. They say something about being black, it's Black PRIDE, what the hell is that about?

I just wanted to respond to the poster above. NOT all white people have the heritage of being slave owners. NOT even all white people from the South. My heritage is mostly Irish with a little Cherokee. My ancestors came here with nothing but the clothes on their backs and scraped and worked there @sses off to put food on the table. I grew up on a farm in a small town in Georgia and d@mn proud of where I came from. My family still makes enough to get by, but we are by no means well off or even close to that. I am NOT in the least bit racist, but you let me wear something saying that I'm proud to be from the South and all he!! will break loose. I went to college with two of my best friends to continue playing softball together, both of whom were black (their reference not mine, they don't like African-American). I feel as though I have to explain this and anything else that proves I'm not racist just because I am from the South and proud of it. I call bullsh!t!

I'm not racist, but I've thought about similar things....I mean like the college fund and all. I mean 'cause there's a lot of poor white people who can't afford college (I'm one of them) and that kind of sucks. I think that the world needs to stop thinking of us as different races and start thinking about as 1 race the human race.
I also question about the spanish speaking stuff as well so I tend to think about the race/religion/background things a lot.
Also for the girl who said MTV didn't play black artists in the 80's that's a lie. There were plenty of them.....
Whitney Houston
Jody Whatley
Prince
NWA
Run DMC
I can name more. There was also a Black VJ.

I am a "white" person(but with the grace of a tanning bed am actually a very nice tan shade)and I have no objections to any TV station dedicated to black,Hispanics or any other group. There are stations dedicated to only Christan religious groups, and although I an agnostic,I hold no resentment.I often watch BET to listen to some of my favorites on the program called,"Music for grown folks" I grew up with the old school songs and still love them. You are free to watch what ever you like no one comes to your house and restricts any channel for "black"viewing only,Bravo is in Spanish but if you speak it watch, but no one makes you watch it or restricts your TV that you cant. This is a question that is answerable very easily,I see nothing wrong with others having stations or programs that reflect their culture or point of view. We "whites" have all the major outlets on TV already why do we need more. And before I begin to sound too liberal lol I am against any illigel immigration, but welcome all that are legel. The separation of the races is in actuality a fallacy encouraged by the people that want that to be reality, watch how quickly people of all races and cultures come together as one nation in a time of disaster such as Katrina. All people sent help, money, clothing.opened their hearts and homes to the victims, the only entity slow in responding was our republican government. remember that in your mid term elections and in 2008.

Please do not refer to us as ******, for a ***** is an uneducated person, therefore a person of any color can be a ***** to include yourself. BET caters to African Americans, this is true, it was done to allow us to know what is happening in the world with black people. BET is more than videos, it also includes financial, social issues, politial isses, health issues, etc. The majority of the channels on television cater to whites, so why not allow us one channel. By the way, why arent you mentioning the channels that cater to Hispanics and other ethinicities?
