Sorry about the mistake on my question.. here is the question again.. Why did Zidane hit the italian player?

The Italian player called him a terrorist, and said something obviously bad about zidane mom(was sick in hospital) and sister. zidane in my opinion did the right thing. putting myself in zidane's condition at the moment of insult,I could have done worse. the Italian could have got several blows on face. to be admitted in the hospital. and if I had a gun.....

Because Marco Materazzi (The Itaian player) pulled Zidane's shirt so Zidane told him ' If you want it that much i'll give the shirt to you after the match' so Materazzi in anger assaluted Zidane and his mother and his sister, so Zidane couldn't control himself and hitted the italian player....That was Zidane's story while Materazzi denied the assalut thing saying that he told him an ordinary assalut ONLY to Zidane because he believes that the mother is a great thing..(because Materazzi lost his mother at the age of 14)

Zidane hit the italian player because the italian player insulted and he deserved it. don't you think if someone said something about you n didn't like it wouldn't you hit that person?YES!!its because the italian player called Zidane a dirty terriorist and insulted his mother n onli sister.what is that..thats not how you do things.

Simply because he insulted his mother and sister and yet it was a really bad move on zidanes side, he had been insulted verbally and should have reacted verbally not physically head butting someone so much younger than himself in front of a billion viewers worldwide, jeopardizing his own reputation and the reputation of french football. In other words in such an important match he should have kept his cool.

Just to confirm and correct one of the answers, Zidane denied that he was called a terrorist!! There were rumours going around that Materazzi called him a terrorist, which Materazzi denied emphatically so that comment is incorrect.

I think most of the other insulting exchanges were a personal attack on his mother who is currently very ill and his sister!!

People that are saying he deserved physical violence are wrong. Ever watch NBA? NFL? Baseball? Thats what people do , and alot worse. Zidane took it one step further and he was wrong for that. Why? Cause he was disappointed that he was losing. He was tired, etc.
