It depends on what part of DR you are going to... If it is Puerto Plata..My clients like the Riu properties. They are known for their liquor dispensors in the rooms. Riu Merengue, Riu Mambo, Riu Bachata, they are in a Riu complex together, and if you stay at the Riu Bachata you have access to the other properties....
If you are going to Punta Cana...The same goes for there as well...I will list them from the lowest star rating up...Riu Naibo, Riu Taino, Riu Bambu, Riu Palace Macao, and the new Riu Palace Punta Cana....
All these have nightly shows, casinos, non motorized watersports ( included), discos....there are alot of things to do for your age group....
you can go to
www.riu.com
and check out the hotels, and ALL that you get when staying in a Riu property...

I was in the Dominican Republic in December 2004 and stayed at Secrets Excellence( Punta Cona) the resort was great but there is nothing to do there unless you want to spend alot of money. And you have to be escorted around (it's not safe there outside the resort or any resort for that matter)The resort offers a verity of things to do.This resort is adults only 18 and up.So it was real quiet most of the time. The entertainment is top notch the food is real good.It doe's help if you speak Spanish. You can't drink the water. Now if you want to have a real good time go to Jamaica I was there in Dec 2005 and would go back in a minuet. But I would not go back to the Dominican

The Dominican Republic is on my top 5 list. It is a wonderful place to visit. Staying close to the resort is advised. You probably won't want to leave the resort anyway...many things to do and the beaches are unmatched. I agree that the RIU's are great. Note: Apple Vacations own the rooms closest to the beach and they have charters that fly often. If you are flexible, you can probably get a good deal.

For your age group you need to go to Cabarete. There are a few hotels there all inclusive with drinks and you can drink over 18 there. The one I like to stay at is Vivas Tangerine, it is a Whyndham hotel. The have lots of clubs right on the beach that stay open until the next day. You will thank me for this information :)

Try the Bahia Principe in Punta Cana. It's fairly new, though it's a very isolated like most resorts in Punta Cana. Theres lots of vegetation surrounding it, but it's a huge resort. I liked it there.

Punta Cana is the newest hot spot. If you are looking for adults only go with Secrets Excellence. Another great resort although not just for adults is the Iberostar Bavaro Suites...Great restaurants and you have exchange priveleges with their other resorts...Great value.

Goggle search hotels/resort in the Dom. Rep. specifically in the area you plan to stay at, a lot of times you can get a virtual tour, and will tell you the amenities and things for that matter.

Sunscape Casa Del Mar in Bayahibe is WONDERFUL!! Good food, good services, great beach. There is a coral reef right outside the beach, so good spot for snokeling. The sea is calm.
