I'm 18 and attempting to decide on a career path, my main interest is cars (everything and anything to do with them). A degree course would be a good choice to aim for but currently I only know of one Degree in the Motor Industry - Automotive Engineering, anyone know of any more degrees or other paths I should look into. Test driving fancy cars and writing about them - how would I do that? :-)

so you want to test-drive ferrari's and porches - who doesnt!!!!!

If you want to test drive, you will probably need some mechanical knowledge. Its all very well driving a car at 130mph, but you need to be able to write a report afterwards and a degree in enginering will help.

You may have been messing about under the bonnet for years, but no employer is going to take this into account - they want to see qualifications.

Why dont you contact some manufacturers and see if they have any training programmes or advice they can give you. Write to them all, big and small, you will probably have to start at the bottom, (skoda's -yuk!!) but who doesnt?

You are only 18, you will need a lot more years of driving skills behind you, probably advanced driving exams, so look into that too.

Also you could contact race tracks and see what info they can give you about test driving.

Hope it goes well, like I said you are only 18 so its unlikely you will find a test driving job without further qualifications, but start making contact and getting information and see where it leads.

the first element i'd alert you about is that there are a procedures extra men wanting to be mechanics than there are jobs for them. the subsequent element is that engaged on autos ought to look like a dream now yet after a lengthy time period it really is in common words a job and in no way a o.k. paid one at that. you do not get to being a motor recreation technician without countless years journey weilding the spanners and particular nevertheless would not. 2 a lengthy time period from now? Who has a crystal ball? 30 years back they suggested the oil ought to expire interior 2 a lengthy time period. what's bound is that the mechanics interest will significantly substitute and he's normally a blend vehicle electrician come suspension/brakes technician. Many classic trades have almost disappeared. for instance and holding in the motor commerce, the Panel Beater. the classic PB ought to take a flat sheet of Alloy and turn it right into a motor vehicle wing etc. purely does not ensue now because the labour value should be too extreme and the classic Panel Beater has developed right into a body fix Technician. they can nevertheless use classic skills to knock out dents yet with some thing substantial they fit alternative panels. yet i'd repeat, you're making plans on a commerce that doesn't pay nicely with the help of todays criteria.
