The British leased Hong Kong off China, and in 1997, the lease ran out !
Hong Kong is still glamorous and exciting and is functioning under the motto of " One country, two systems". Governed by China, yet the freedom of a democratic society.
A great mix of East and West !

I used to live in Hong Kong, fabulous place, Hong Kong Island is classed as China now as every one says, but when it was a British colony, Kowloon side was still China,as you moved further inland towards the New Territories it was part of China, was then and always will be. Are you thinking of going there? if so I strongly recommend it, they still have their freedom to do mostly what they want, go for it if you are.

Hongkong is not a separate country but a special administrative region of China that HK has own Government, Police, Courts and Laws, Inland Revenue Dept, Customs and Excise Dept, passport (& Immigarion Dept), ......You may find that there is still a border (and immigration control) separating China and Hongkong.
However, foreign policies are at the hands of the Chinese Central Gov't. Nevertheless, HK keeps the memberships of some organizations (e.g. WTO.....)

Hong Kong is a "particular Administrative region" of China. So, what meaning is that it has thoroughly distinct guidelines and a distinct authorities, in spite of the indisputable fact that it remains secure by technique of China from a protection rigidity element of view and is considered area of it is land. the nearest evaluation you're attentive to is Puerto Rico being area of u.s.- in spite of the indisputable fact that it truly is a US territory, it nevertheless doesn't have all of an similar guidelines. There are better adjustments than the U. S.-PR relationship, in spite of the indisputable fact that the analogy nevertheless better or a lot less works.
