To my understanding the Falabella is a rare breed of miniature horse which originated in Argentina while the American Miniature Horse breed descended from European miniature horses.

QHs and AQHs are basically the same since the horse is an American breed. So saying Quarter Horse is just a shorter way of saying American Quarter Horse.

A Falabella is a little pony. A Miniature Horse is not a pony. It is a miniature horse. Now you are probably confused on what a Shetland Pony is. A Shetland Pony is a kind of miniature horse. A American Quarter Horse is the same as the Quarter Horse. They where maid in America. So there is not a french Quarter Horse or anything.

Are you meaning the difference between *American* QH and QH or AQHA and *Foundation* QH? American QH is the same as a quarter horse. The *foundation* QH is of specific bloodlines that historically trace to early quarter horses. They are typically smaller, with less TB blood, than many quarter horses today. They are still AQHA registered - but additionally can be listed with the Foundation QH based on their pedigree.

As to miniatures and Falabella - the latter is specifically from South America - Argentina is often mentioned. The miniature is divided as A for horses 34 inches and under and B for horses between 34 and 38 inches. In otherwords...a Falabella is a miniature horse but not all minis are Falabella - which is specifically a certain type of breeding within the miniature horse world.

Falabella is one of the oldest breeds of miniature horses. Most minis today in America are from two mini breed registries - one allows larger minis and is a sister registry with Shetland Ponies - American Miniature Horse Association and American Miniature Horse Registry.

American Quarter Horse is a registered breed. Quarter horse refers to the same breed.
