The circumferance around the equator is about 24,000 miles, which means that there is about an hour's difference for every 1,000 miles. If you knew the distance between your home country and another country in terms of their difference at the equator you could make a fairly good estimate of the difference in time.

There is a 1 hour difference in time zone for every 15 degrees of diffence in longitude between countries. There might be a slight error due to rounding, or if the time zone boundary is slightly deviated.
If you don't know the longitudes, you can estimate about 1000 miles of east-west distance per 15 degrees of longitude (i.e. per hour of time difference) at the equator; or about 700 miles of east-west distance per hour of time difference at 45 degrees latitude (northern U.S.).
So you will have to know the distance between countries if you don't want to refer to a time zone table, etc.

You would have to check it out at some point to learn it, then you would need to study the information. With 24 time zones on the planet, all of them running north-south through various countries, we're talking about a great deal of information to memorize. However, it can be done. It would be very impressive to give the correct answer to anyoneone who asks you, "What time is it Easter Island? Kyoto, Japan? Fairbanks, Alaska?......"

Yeah...go to that website!
Or know the angle between the points of interest. The earth rotates at 15 degrees/ hour, so you can figure it from there.
