I am fixing my car, had to replace the alternator pulley because the nut fell off. I drive a 98 ford escort se, and need to know where I can find a diagram for the serpentine belt set up because it was completely off when i popped the hood. Also any other advice would be welcome. First time fixing a belt and alternator.

The belt goes over the crankshaft then working clockwise under the tensioner then over the alternator then over the power steering then under the idler pulley and over the A/C compressor.

On this vehicle the water pump is driven by the timing belt not the serpentine belt.

Check the front of the engine compartment in front of the radiator or the inside of the hood. There should be a diagram showing exactly what you're looking for. Pay particular attention to the idler pulley and direction to get some slack to change the belt.

It is very hard to get a diagram. It might be beneficial for you to know that the water pump pulley is driven by the back of the belt and if you know this you should be able to work it out.

first of all the alt pulley nut should be put on with an air gun and then you can go to an auto parts store and get a book for your car and it will have the diagram in it and if you don't want to get the book you can ask at the counter and he can look it up for you.
