Yes. Any regular physical activity exceeding 30 minutes combined with a good diet is a good way to lose weight. However, it takes time and you've got to be persistent.
So... get off of the computer and go do something.

Yes it is, but weight bearing exercise should also be done as it helps increase bone density. With the swimming, keep moving for at least 30 minutes however many laps that makes for you... you may need to build up to it.

yes, it is an excellent way to lose weight, as long as you combine it with a healthy, low fat diet. Of course, you have to stick with it and swim at least five times a week and get your heart pounding. It is an excellent aerobic exercise which works virtually every muscle in your body and it's fun!!

A great way, but if the pool that you swim in regularly is cold, remember that your body will adapt by retaining up to 30% more body fat. Hot sweaty cardio is best for pure fat reduction.
