It is really tough work. The saying is "Truckin ain't for Sissies". Very stress full, If you are considering getting your CDL through a school via your own expense then go for a freight job. Pays more then SWIFT and all them other con-artist Trucking companies. And you are home every night. Good days pay for a hard days work. With them scam OTR companies they pay you crap and say it is based on your experience even though you are still doing the same exact work. You will still be gone all the time. You will still get forced dispatch, UN-paid load/unload waits. No out of route miles..IE taking a wrong exit...you will get break down pay after like 2 days @ $10 an hour. What a joke. They reimburse your tolls like 2 months later. Them recruiters are about as honest as a car salesman. They treat you like gold to get you in then you are just another zero on his pay check.
