A very typical answer from the shop assistants when you ask them for a different size, colour or fresh product on displays, and can often be heard from big departmentstores. Do you believe them? Or, they're just plain lazy to find you stuff?

I think most of the time the underpaid staff don't care, and are unwilling to 'waste time' finding out & building customer loyalty (hey, it's not their company).

And to add to a previous reply - I always seek out the freshest produce. Whether milk, eggs, bread or fruit. Why should I pay MY money for goods that will go bad several days sooner just to help your stock control? - I'll take the best & freshest I can lay my hands on!

Believe them. I used to work at one of those places. They have systems that tell them what sells and has stockers automatically replenish it. If it isnt on the shelf, its either A. busy and not on the shelf yet B. gone.

Edit: Fresh product? If it isnt expired Its good enough. I hated it when people dug in the back and took the new milk and eggs and bread. Then I have to throw out perfectly good food. Take it from the front. Heck, I used to work at a bread store with three other employess (small place) when you worked you were alone. I would only leave out the oldest bread, and no more came out until it was all gone.

I work in a supermarket and we dont normally have anymore when we say that. But i will admit that some people are just too idle to check! look at the shelf, sometimes there are tickets tucked in the stripping (where the prices are displayed) thats poking up. This means its been checked and there is no more, but more has been ordered.

They're sometimes lazy. But sometimes they're in charge of the stockroom and so know whats back there.

they are lazy liars . they know they have more and if they cant be bothered that's what they say ! just say after their excuses " can you check with your supervisor " this usually kicks them into action . but sometimes the supervisor is a lazy liar too !

All the time!
Mind you, I once asked for soured cream. Got told it was over by the lettuce.............
I said, No I haven't got a speech impediment.......
(Soured cream, not salad cream with a hare lip.)
Now that's a true story. Somerfield. 1999. Telford.
