I think it was sincere and from the heart. He has let the children know not to emulate his actions as it is wrong, but has also stated that he walked away from the taunts until after they were continually repeated he could take no more. He confirmed what I have said previous, surely he would not throw away his WC dream and end his career for mere trash talk. It was something below acceptable trash talk, very personal. He has accepted responsibility for his actions and faced the world to apologise. You know you are so correct, when you think about it, the statement he made in relation to being a man first is very profound. It is also honourable. If FIFA take away his WC award before they have fully and completely investigated the incident they are a shameful bunch. As stated , no provocation, no reaction. Now what will happen with the other one involved? That is the next Question.

I think that under the circumstances, it took a great deal of pride and courage to apologize to the fans, to the young kids for the incident.
I think he was humble and sincere in his regret at what had happened and acknowledges and takes full responsibility of his actions which is more than I can say for Materazzi who has yet to issue an apology to Zidane publicly for the comments he made about his mother and sister to clear the air between the two, and I'm sure in return Zidane would be more willing to offer an apology in return for the buttheading incident. Materazzi is not entirely blameless in this incident and I hope Fifa will really take that into consideration.

I am Italian and a fan of the Azzurri team BUT I think Zidane's actions were understandable and his explanation was right---he couldn't take the insults any longer. Materrazzi is a prick and should be investigated further. I'll be angry if Zidane's Golden Ball gets taken away

we all make mistakes. I personally dont know how i wouldve reacted if someone would've attacked my family in such way. For all that Zidane has given, he should be forgiven. He asked for all the children, and everyone who was watching the incident his deepest apologies because he understands the impact of his actions. What he has said is in fact very admirable.

Im glad he did it... firstly no one in any situation should sit back and stand for that crap.
Secondly, I wanted italy to win the cup and if Zidane had been in france may very well have won.

Well, there is a time and place for everything and we have seen and heard that there is a history of violence here, that cannot be denied.
