we have just changed the head gasket and everything and can't get the stupid thing timed right to get it started. can't seem to find the timing marks. can anyone help?

I guess you wound up with the timing belt off? Usually there are marks on the cam sprockets and the end of the head that you line up, same with the crank, and then you put the belt on without moving anything.

If that doesn't help, check the shop manual for your engine -- I think Rangers come with several engines and you didn't specify.

theres one on the crank pully witch you line up with a pointer on the block and one on the cam pully witchyou line up with a notch on the accurate of the front plate . Failling that mark the pullies with paint or chalk befor you're taking the belt off

with the number 1 cylinder at top dead center the rotor should point at it if not than the timing chain has been installed wrong

look on the harmonic balancer ,on the crank,it should be there.
