Germany is an amalgamation of the Teutonic (Norse) peoples from the North and the Slave from the southeast. Of course there are variations, but for the most part the Teutons were the blonde-haired blue-eyed people, and the Slavs were darker.
I've seen Germans of all different colors. And it really doesn't matter what your looks are; culture makes you German, or American, or Irish, or Martian.

There weren't many blond-haired, blue-eyed Spaniards. And after 500 years it's not easy to believe their genes haven't been diluted. But there are several other groups that in the last 150 years have migrated to Mexico for any number of reasons. The Germans, French, Dutch, Lebanese (in huge numbers!) and Argentinians have a very large presence in Mexico. Their genes have found their way into the Mexican population, even in small towns, and are causing more fair features among the Mexican population.

It is only a stereotype, about 25-30% of Germans are naturally blonde hair and altogether approximately 55% of Germans have blonde or light brown hair and about 65% have light eyes, most have a light skin which can tan. A large minority has black hair and brown eyes. Thus there are more Germans who have "light" features than "dark".
