No it wasn´t, if the referee was going to expulse Zidane, he should have elpulsed Materazzi too.

Although the incindent can be seen as disgraceful to anyone watching, Zidane himself apoligized and said that after the repeated assult (Materazzi's insults about his mother who was in a hospital, and his sister) can in away justify his actions. However Materazzi's actions can not be justified at all. According to the rules of the game, Zidane's expulsion was "fair". Materazzi's actions however show him to be deserving of more than just a head-butt.

Sadly yes!! That incident was replayed on the widescreen for viewers to see worldwide over and over again, violence in soccer no matter what the provation should not go unpunished. Though I think Materazzi should have received the red card too for bad conduct!! Materazzi is no innocent babe in this incident - if he had any sense of honor he should apologize to Zidane for his remarks about his mother and sister!!!

Yes, he committed a foul, he deserved expulsion. Even if Materazzi made a blood-boiling insult he needs to control his temper. it's Football for goodness sakes!

yes.

And to one of the previous answers, no, the referee did not see it because he was watching the play, but he consulted his assistant referee who did see it (and whose job is to see the things the ref doesn't see in the case it's far from him - like this case), making him able to kick Zidane out of the game..

oh snap.

Yes. He lost his cool and blew his stack when he head-butted the Italian player.
Not professional at all.
Some role model he made.
