The hesitation is like a hiccup or slippage. But it is happening with regularity in the power curve between 1500 and 2000 rpms, and from 40-50 mph. It only happens, though when I am going up hill and have to give her some gas to maintain speed. I dont feel the trans downshifting.

If it is a transmission issue (the trans is an automatic), is this a sign I will need a full blown replacement or is it an adjustmet type of issue? If not a transmission problem, what could it be? THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING!!!

No, not transmission. Since it happens uphill, I suspect bad spark plug wires or spark plugs. It sounds like a "misfire".

You should go to autozone and have them read the car's computer codes for you (they do it for free). Don't be guessing with your checkbook.

I don't know if you have a check engine light on or not, but it seems to me that you have a sensor going bad. I don't remember the name of it off hand, but, it controls when your transmission down shifts when going up hill or when more power is needed. think of it this way, if your ford was a manual transmission and you didn't downshift while going uphill it would start to bog down and choke. You need to talk to a mechanic and have them run a diagnostic check.

It could possibly be your timing on the engine. Or your transmission is slowly going.
