It depends on what brought it on. If it had something to do with a sensitive subject, I would keep that in mind when I reacted to it. I don't know the situation, so I can't tell you what I would say, but if they're a good friend, there's gotta be a reason, so I'd say just give things some time to blow over and get on with your lives. If there's something that you two need to work out, wait until you're both calm enough for a mature conversation, then talk it out.

I would say THANK YOU.
thank you for being honest
thank you for not lying
thank you for exposing yourself so i know that the friendship is over
thank you for not wasting both our time
thank you for being there when you were
thank you for all the good times
thank you for sharing yourself with me
thank you for leaving
Lastly thank you is a great way to respond to insult because the deliverer of the insult cannot do anymore since you acknowledged the insult and it puts you in the good light that you don't give a hoot and you feel good while saying it....
try it right now...when you say thank you there is an immediate feeling of well being and goodness because it is a natural and unconscious reaction to an act of kindness.
Look at how a lot of the other responders still hold resentment for their failed friendships and how they dwell on it. These two word will bring you instant gratification this person is leaving..it's not you that left..therefore you should say thank you..LOL
I say to you now Thank You

I wold be shocked and hurt on the inside and I would start by letting a few tears fall down. Then I would slap the friend back and say "I'm already in hell being a friend to you."

A good friend? That would upset me to hear something like that from someone I called "good friend" I would react with "surprise" ..if I instigated my friends anger...then I would apologize ...but my friend said that to me when I was just trying to help...and she felt I was "meddling" then I would understand...but to say "hell with you" just for the heck of it...that would make me angry...

It depends on the situation and which friend you're talking about. For a few of my friends, I'd laugh because we all know it's a joke. For others, I'd probably get upset and face a breaking relationship with him or her. I usually don't say much.

If the person was serious, Catholic, believed in Hell, I would wonder why he or she was saying that to me. If he or she was a really good friend I WOULD really care a lot. I would ask "why are you saying that?"

First i do the famous neck roll and be like whateva, im playing i would just laugh in their face and keep it moving and hang out with my other friends. Give them the cold shoulder for a few days and they will appologize. If not just rub good/great life all in their faces when you pass by.

Chill Man!!
It's just words - How sensitive can you be?! If you are offended by something so trivial, perhaps your friendship was only a thin crust.
Strong soldiers can take more than just a comment said in, perhaps, a moment of anger.

first off, he/she is not a good friend if she says that (to hell with you) to you. I really don't have any detail on why she/he said what she/he said so I can't really give you my opinion. But, if you did something to upset him/her then they more then likely were just talkin out of anger. But, if they did something to you and you got upset and they said that (to hell with you) then, I would probably do what comes to my mind first!
