Easy to prepare, get out, and should be able for students to quickly put them away (I don't want to spend loads of money...just for my early finishers).

I have a bulletin board I keep up all year. It's called "Our Stories are A-MAZE-ing." You put up a really simple maze around the board and at the start you put a story starter on an index card. When students finish early they can get up and add a sentence or two on another index card. It helps them work on a story having a beginning, middle, and end that follow a certain order of events. Either they can staple up their section of the story, or you can later. When the stories get to the finish of the maze (don't make it too long or you'll regret it) then you type up their story and take down the old cards. Put up a new story starter and you're off again.

let the kids one day make "mailboxes" out of construction paper. and then when the ones finish just let them write notes to other kids and slip them in the "mailbox" or you could let them draw, read, or if you have P.E let them think up some ideas for games. Also they could write like a newsleter with articles about stuff happening and class room along with school activites coming up. I hope i helped!
