I think the progession is something like this:
Ignorance... leads to
fear... leads to
hatred... leads to
violence.
We sadly see it over and over again.

Time to play devil's advocate:
Revenge has to be present in some form, otherwise those who wrong us would keep doing as they please, when they please, to whomever they please.
The key to revenge is not taking it too far... just realize what you need to do to put an end to the problem.
Good example: Bush's invasion of Afghanistan after 9-11. Hardly any one objected to it, because it a) generally helped citizens there, b) went after the right people, and c) wasn't too excessive.
Bad example: The Iraq War... it is supposed to be in connection with the 9-11 attacks, but what exactly is that connection? And can you prove it?
In summary, revenge is a good thing, when you practice it correctly.

Its not so much about revenge but about punishment. If we really live in a just world when you hurt someone they hurt you back. So is the world just yet?

Because that's what they've been brought up to think/do. when you're a kid and somebody accidentally pushes you, you push back..and then you start fighting...there isn't that forgiveness in people anymore. it's just gone violent and heartless on earth.
