Mediocre is average. And talking about things and people do have a lot in common.
However, talking about ideas incorporates things and people into a larger, more complex world view. It requires that you understand theories of human interaction, and what external effects cause changes in behaviors.

Absolutely. Mediocre people watch Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson on TV and cant talk about anything else. Average people talk to their coworkers about the weather and what their kids are doing at school. Above average people, like...Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey, Einstein etc, talk about ideas and theories and stuff like that.
Peace

I think that quote about average people is lame. Try this one!
Average is the best of the worst and the worst of the best. Do you really want to be average?
Best
Average
Worst
Be the best and you'll go far in life! What do you do for a living? Do you ever practice it? Or just do it? Do professional athletes practice or just go to the game on Sunday? Tiger Woods, does he practice? Or does he just show up for the Tournament?

I think Average people talk about ideas, as well. But i agree with the last part.
Example: HS. A two hour gym class
Two girls pull up a chair and stare at a girl for two hours. If they were really cool, they would've been bored by that.

Somewhat. For the most part it seems true. Just the Average people comment. That's the only debatable. Still a great saying!

Mediocre people only talk about others when they run out of things to say about themselves. Unfortunately, there is a very simple guage to measure a person's IQ when they are speaking...count the number of "I's " they utter....if their talk is filled with "I this, I that, I whatever, " you can count on them being very simple in thought, word, and deed. (I am talking about other people, aren't I ...makes me mediocre...I admit it. Good luck
