Labour will begin immediately in most people. If it doesn't begin on its own, pitocin will be administered. The baby has to be delivered within 24 hrs after stripping membranes to avoid infection.Good Luck.

There's been some debate on this one. Many midwives have had a 100% success rate with stripping to induce labor within 24 hours, so long as the woman bled from it. Some women are stripped multiple times with no luck. I had my membranes stripped with my last pregnancy, and didn't go into labor until about four hours prior to my inductioned, scheduled a week after my membranes being stripped. It's unknown if I went into labor due to the stripping, or just because I was 2 weeks overdue and the baby finally decided it was time.

Having your membranes stripped is not an automatic labor inducer. I have 7 children and 3 of them the stripping never worked. If it's going to work, it can take up to a week afterwards. Just don't go into it expecting labor to start right away. You might get lucky and start with 24 hours. Good Luck to you.

Different for each woman. I had my membranes stripped and it took 4 days to go into labor.

With my youngest, I was in labor for six weeks. They stripped the membranes twice and had me on a pitocin drip. Finally, they did an emergency c-section for failure to progress (duh!!!) and found out that his ear had been presenting instead of the crown of his head . . . he had been stuck for those six weeks!
Good luck!
