The “Bases” came about in the 1920’s and 1930’s. They were handy ways for high school boys and young unmarried men to brag about how far they got without having to say “Breast” out loud.
1st base = kissing
2nd base = fondling the girl’s breasts
3rd base = Fondling the girl’s crotch
4th base (home) (called “Scoring” or “going all the way”) = having sex.
