What does it mean for a team to be under or over 500? Can a team be under or over any other numbers like this? I'm just getting into baseball so please forgive my ignorance!

Over .500 means they've won more than half the games they've played so far. The .500 is a decimal representing the percentage of games that a team has won. Being at .500 means having won and lost exactly the same amount of games. Being under means having lost more than you've won. You can calculate a team's average yourself. Just divide the number of games won by the total number of games played and round it off to the nearest 1/1000.

Under 500 is more losses than wins. Over 500 means more wins than losses. At 500 is the same number of wins and losses. Yes, teams can be over that, but fans don't use them, cause it sound tacky.

No problem I'm not a baseball encyclopedia myself though 500 means is the same as 50% winning percentage. So if some one is batting over 500 they are hitting over 50% of their times at bat. Same with winning they are winning over 50% of their games which is a lot in baseball.

over means 1 game or more above a .500 winning percentage.
under means being 1 game or more below .500 winning percentage
a team cant be over/under any other stats

Over 500 means you've won more that half or 50% of you games. It comes from .500 which is the decimal for 50%.

.500 would be having the same number of wins as losses. Over .500 is having more wins than losses and vice versa. You don't really need to be a baseball fan to know this.
