Hourly; you get pay for each hour, so you can get overtime if you do more than the regular amount listed in your state. Salary; you get paid a predetermined amount, but if you work a lot of hours, you get screwed cause there is No overtime usually. And most of the professional jobs are salary, so they may be paid a high salary to begin with, but it's paid for by very long hours sometimes. There are a few exceptions that still pay hourly and are professional jobs though.

Sometimes, an hourly employee is considered "non-exempt" (not exempt from minimum wage laws) which means they are entitled to overtime pay, usually when they exceed 40 hours a week. A salaried employee is normally considered "exempt" which means they earn a set amount and do not earn overtime, even if they work more than 40 hours a week. This is just a rule of thumb and states have different labor laws which define what the differences are for employers and employees.

A "salary" is a "set" income that is agreed upon by both the employer and employee...which the employee is paid either on a weekly or monthly basis...and the amount of "hours" that he or she works has no effect on the income. In other words, no matter how much or how little you work when on a salary, your paycheck remains the SAME. On an "hourly" basis, you are paid at a set rate for every "hour" that you actually work.

A salary is a set income that an employee receives per month. An hourly wage is a wage that is earned per hour, and the employee is paid for those hours only.

When you are on salary you are paid the same amount of money every payroll, regardless how many hours you worked. When you are on hourly base then your pay depends on how many hours you actually clocked in and out for. Salaries are usually for more advanced jobs.

salaried employees are paid by the year ($60,000 per year distributted at some interval -- usually 2 months). Hourly employees are paid according to the hours that they work. Typically part-time workers are paid hourly.

if you earn a salary you earn the same amount of money no matter how many hours you work, if you earn an hourly wage you are paid by how many hours you work.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and
designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster,
Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor,
(www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions
and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale.
Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career.
