long hair on men is percieved as unkept. The steriotype is a slob. I would hope that employers would not be prejeduced in this way, but I doubt it. However, in the computer fields, thats a symbol of nerd-dom so maybe its a plus? I wonder what percentage of Yahoo people have ponytails?

I've noticed that employers are getting more used to people dressing out of the norm, and that goes for hair, and piercings too.
Where I work you can wear anything , anyway you want.
I think that most employeers look at your overall appearance if you are going to be in a position that requires you to be in the public eye.

I work in a factory, so they don't care if you aren't the 1950's dresser.
I worked at Wal-Mart for years and had my hair back in a pony tail, and even had a goatee, but no one ever said anything about it.
It all depends on the person doing the hiring.
If you know someone that works there, ask them, or ask if they have a copy of thier dress code. If you can, try to see some of the other employees and notice how they are dressed, and wear their hair. That would give you a good indication as to what you can expect.
As a good rule, dress like you are looking for a job, and not out to make a fashion statement.
Don't wear printed t-shirts, or shorts, or pants that are hanging off your hips.
Get the job, then go from there on what you can get by with. Good luck.
