You have to type sh1t to pass thru the word but bushwacker is apparently a-okay. You can say the GLTB folks are sick, perverse, an abomination, and categorize homosexuals with pedifiles, but if the same were said of any ethinicity, nationality, or religion, it'd generate a pile of responses calling it hateful and ignorant, and most likely be sensored before it was even posted. Yet, all the above and more is "tolerable" in reference to the LGTB community. Why?

Hey, I have a job and a life and am a big supporter of free speech. I just find it surprising that there's so much more discrimination in this category than elsewhere on Answers. Thought I'd ask for feedback.

For the dictionary aficionado, try looking up "double entendre" and then "******" and if you still don't get it, never mind.

I for one report direct attacks but not general hatred. THe reason for not reporting the second is to show a greater level of respect. Everyone has a right to have an opinion and state it. Conversly i will not answer their posts and recomend no one does. IF they do not get responses they will get bored and leave. IF we try to argue they feel they have won because that upset us.

I have reported people on here. And for the most part it is pulled. Probable like everyone else the people monitoring this stuff are so over worked that there just is not time to find it all or pull it. Or it could be that when reported it maybe is worked by a bigot that believes what the poster is saying is correct. Such is life. Actually, I have decided to answer the bigots. Because it cost them 5 points to post. I get 2 for answering. If they pick the best answer (which they will not) they get 2 back and I get 10. They still lose 3 points. Maybe they will eventually run out and will not be able to post anymore.

I don't think Yahoo reads the abuse reports. My guess is that if a large number of reports come up for the same question or answer and they all have the same reason, then the computer automatically dumps it.

I don't report the people I just disagree with, no matter how nutty they are. But if they insight hatred or call nasty names, or just plain aren't asking or answering a question, I do, and most of them, if not all of them survive.

Yahoo is notorious for not letting humans do anything, the machine does it all. I had a Yahoo account hacked and tried to get through to Yahoo customer service, and it was not possible to do. All I could get was automated responses.

But then you get what you pay for, and this is free.

People have different moral standards or degrees of acceptance. What is offensive or discriminatory or hate filled to one may be humor to another. As an example, you apparently find the word bushwhacker offensive. According to the Yahoo dictionary, bushwhack and bushwhacker are perfectly good words.

bush·whack (bshhwk, -wk) KEY

VERB:
bush·whacked , bush·whack·ing , bush·whacks
VERB:
intr.

To make one's way through thick woods by cutting away bushes and branches.
To travel through or live in the woods.
To fight as a guerrilla in the woods.
VERB:
tr.

To attack suddenly from a place of concealment; ambush. See Synonyms at ambush.

And that is the key. Words are neither good nor bad by themselves. It's how people use those words and how others accept or reject the words. When "Gone With the Wind" was released to movie theaters in 1939, it was the first time people heard the word "damn" spoken in a movie. It sent shock waves across the country. That same word today hardly raises an eyebrow.

Times change and people adapt. That's why it's so hard to legislate morality. Hope I haven't offended you with my viewpoint.

Why bother...this is an adult site, and some of the fun comes from the idiots who say the worst things. IF anyone says anything about Pedophilia, I cut, paste with their screen name and drop it off to the FBI via Email. Easy as pie. Other than that, I could care less, and I am the one usually doing the blasting at these idiots...sort of a venting at stupidity, which, in itself, is even stupider. Good luck

Either: people do a whole lot of reporting, but no one at yahoo bloody cares, or else some people feel that it's better for their own sanity to just ignore the losers.

I do report the haters and overly sexual questions posted in the GLBTQ area, some I bet are kicked off but just come back with a different name so mostly I ignore them. They just want the attention or are really that dumb.
