I know you wouldn't pay anymore or any less depending on whether it is quarter or semesters.

Semesters divide a school year into two sections. Fall semester and Spring semester. Fall semester starts end of August and you are done during the second week of December. It is 16 weeks. You get a month off before Spring semester starts Middle of January. Spring semester ends the second week of May. For Spring break you get a week. So semesters are 16 weeks. They also have summer classes as well. The college I went to had three summer sessions.

Quarters divide the school year into four sections. Two of my friends went to schools that were quarters. You have the first quarter that I believe are 8 weeks long (Not sure though). Than they have a two week break. Than another quarter which they are done at the same time as we are for winter break. Their winter break is only two weeks as opposed to the month semester schools have. Than they have another quarter. Than another two week break. Than the final quarter. Now a school that is on quarters ends a month later in June as opposed to May.

In terms of classes I took about 5 classes a semester. Which was about ten classes a year. I believe quarter schools are about the same amount of classes for the year just split into four groups as opposed to two. You won't get done faster if you go to a school that uses quarters as opposed to semesters.

Schools that use semesters use block scheduling. I would have a class that was 2-3 days a week for 1-2 hours each session. I believe that schools that use quarters a person goes to a class 4-5 days a week for about 45-60 minutes because they have to cram the same amount of material in a smaller block of time.

I personally enjoyed going to a college that used semesters.

quarterly is four times a year whereas semester are generally twice a year (spring and fall semester) there are summer semesters as well in most colleges but they are generally accelerated than the other two. semesters are more lengthy and time consuming while quarters are quicker and cheaper. all in all it would depend on how your learning is. quick learner, slow learner, need things repeated to you etc. either way it would probably amount to the same price. the quicker you are could be beneficial if you did semester and packed 5 or 6 classes in there. usually a "normal" semester is around 4-5 classes. 4 classes a semester will take you 5 years to graduate whereas 5 or more classes per semester will get you done in 4 or less years. quarterly you'll have to pick up on things quickly. semester you'll have time to let things soak in and actually learn something.

Truthfully there is no difference in the education. I have experienced both at different colleges. The quarter models gives covers the information of one half a semester. So basically two quarters equal one semester. The credits are also adjusted to reflect this. All things being equal, if tutition were the same, you would pay the same for both systems

The thing for science majors to remember with the semester system is that you generally have five courses at a time. That means you may end up with five labs a week. Students generally carry three courses in the quarter system. Classes are longer and more frequent, but you'll be able to space your labs out.
