Say you have a 20 year old son or daughter and they killed someone. Would you help them cover up the murder? Would you be their alibi and help them dispose of the body? I totally would.

this is a "what if question". My children are 3 years and 8 months. I was just curious. My husband and I had this conversation a couple days ago.

You put a lot of thought in your questions. That's cool.
Well my kids are 9 & 10 and no I don't think I would help them with a murder. Your kiddies are young. Of course you'd do anything for them. Wait till they get older. Everything will change. If they were to kill someone I would turn them in so the police wouldn't kill them trying to hunt them down.
It would break my heart and probably kill me. I'd walk the walk with them and never turn my back on them. I just couldn't help them.

good question

That is just sick. Plus it is just plain stupid. As a former criminal defense lawyer, I would have to urge anyone NOT to do this. No, I don't think the asker here is actually in this situation, but I'm answering anyway. The chances of nobody actually finding out are incredibly slim. People talk. Hey, your son told you... Who else did he tell? Chances are you'd end up in prison as well as your kid for aiding and abetting or conspiracy to cover up the crime. The rest of your family would love that. If your kid killed someone, and I'm assuming you're talking intentional homicide since you want to cover it up (can't be an accident then, can it?), they need to be kept away from the public--as much as it pains me to say that. You can still love your kid and not cover up their crimes.

I totally would NOT! I have two children and I'll be damned if I'm going to help them cover up something like that. Everyone must pay for their mistakes no matter who they are. Do you have children? What if someone murdered him/her? You would want justice wouldn't you? It's the same thing. I sure hope you don't teach your children it's ok to break the law because mommy will always be there to cover their asses!

No.

The rules of society exist for a reason. You break certain rules and you have to pay the piper. Of course there are gray areas. I am not going to turn in my son for stealing a candy bar.

BUT if my daughter kills the guy who raped her - in the immediate time frame, I would take exception to my first answer.

NO I would not. First of all it is a sin against God to kill someone. Second of all, you know he/she is going to get caught after awhile and you would be an accessory to the crime and go end up in prison yourself. Last but not least, I would turn him/her in myself. If child is stupid enough to do such a thing then they need to be punished for it.

No...I can't say I would. I have always tried living my life the best way possible. I hope that when I do have children they will follow my good morals and values and I won't have to make such a decision.
