explanation. You were fired from your previous job b/c they found out you had applied at this other co. I know it's all politics but shouldn't you at least be given a reason why, is this legal?

Yes it's legal. Most companies and states have what's called "at will employment". This means basically that you can just up and quit for any reason OR they can fire you for no reason at all. Call the Department of Labor for your state to see if it's an at will employment state. On the up side you may qualify for unemployment.

While it is frustrating, business is in business to make money not to provide jobs. They have the right to make an offer and rescind that offer at any time up to your first day of work. They don't have to share their reasons. Once you start there is more explanation that most companies would offer but just like you can quite your job without notice they can quit you with little if any as well.

It's called "Right to Work" states. They can fire you without reason and you can quit without reason. Tip, when applying for another position--never check the box that says "you can contact current employer."

Sure, unless you had a signed contract with the new employer that stated otherwise. What's happened to you truly sucks, but is all perfectly legal.

Show them your worker's compensation claim forms and they might settle.
