My dd is 7 mths old and was born premie at 35 wks had several problems and was in NICU for 2 wks.Sent home on a home monitor for cardio/respiratory problems. She had MANY brady/apneas.Then went 2 mnths NO bradys at all then 2 wks ago she had 1 every night for a week.Nothing serious & I did not have to intervine but I was worried- her Dr. had told us to return the monitor awhile ago but kept it and just last night she had a major apnea episode! She stopped breathing she was not blue and her heart did not drop but she was not breathing & I had to rub her leg & talk to her to get her breathing.I have NEVER had to intervine with her apneas she always came out on her own.Dr said concerning but not to worry but if I had turned the monitor in I would not known she wasn't breathing then what? Can anyone offer opinion or own experiences w/apnea?Normal or not? Scared mom here.Researched & found that once the episodes stop they should not return but they have and Dr no help w/???s-Healthy otherwise!

She was asleep when it happened I know 100% she was not awake. I had trouble waking her up. It was at 1 in the morning.
She has no clue how to set it off by holding her breathe-YET- but she DOES know how to pull off the electrode sticky pads but I checked and they were on.
She has not had any episodes since she was little so we have not had to go running to her for it at all so she has no sense of knowing if she sets it off we will come running.
She has 4 Dr.s all specialists- cardio for VSD & ASD( holes in her heart), pulmonologist for lungs, family Dr, and developmental Dr and they ALL said "concerning" to "very concerning" but said to "wait and see".I called them all with my worries since all I was told, by them all and researching online, was that once they go away they were not to come back.
She has not done it again but still I am so worried and can't stop watching the machine or her!!!!
(Thanks for replies and suggestions most helpful!!)

Has the doctor checked her for other problems other than her being born 5 weeks early? My son was born 11 weeks early and he was over the apnea episodes before he even left the NICU after the first 5 weeks. It is really strange for a baby that is only 5 weeks early to have so many problems. I would take her to the nearest Children's Hospital and have them check her out.

My oldest daughter was born 16 weeks early. She spent three months and one day in the hospital. She also came home on a monitor. Her apnea would come and go, even after the bradys had stopped. She did figure out that if she held her breath, and the monitor went off we would come running. I am not saying that this is what she is doing, but it is possible. I would take her to another Dr. get a second opinion and if nothing changes, I would watch her outside the room the next time the monitor goes off. If it is real, you can still go help her, but chances are are she will breathe again when you don't rush to her side. I am not trying to sound cruel, so please don't take that wrong. When we finally gave up the monitor,my husband and I slept in shifts for almost two weeks to make sure she was alright. I hope I have helped you in some way. Good Luck

sounds like there is more to the problem then her being early, i mean 35 weeks and the baby has so many problems. I agree with the lady above, get a second opinion and get to the bottom of this once and for all. Go with your instinct on this...Good luck to you and your baby!!!

I agree with Ryan's Mom go to a children's hospital asap tell them what you know already and have them evaluate her for any more hidden problems. You know your baby better than any doctor but you have to know the problems to help your baby. Hang in there your love is what is helping her all the way through this.
