Before I put all of the work into having my Impala converted, I want to be sure that I couldn't get a nicer car for less.

Considering what you might put into an Impala(say $100K), you still would only have an Impala. And a Benz at 100K would not be a Batmobile...independently wealthy...go Batmobile, and start writing a LOT of zeros at the end of those checks.
