It is called IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and it is quiet expensive, not artificial insemination (which is when sperm is placed into a woman's uterus). IVF, if not covered in part or full by insurance, costs about $15,000.00. I have three friends who have gone through it and it can get more expensive if the procedure is not successful and you have to start over again. Most insurance companies do not cover these costs. Yes it can be her egg and his sperm so long as both the egg and sperm are healthy. If he is sterile or her eggs are not mature, then this makes the process even more difficult.

Good luck to your sister-in-law.

The process you are describing is called In Vitro Fertilization or IVF. In the united states it costs about $10,000 and can go up from there. Most insurance companies don't pay for it but clinics usually have payment plans. If your sis in laws eggs are healthy they can use them and same for sperm.
