(Mainly talking about the Zidane incident in the World Cup)

To TheCatPhotographer:

I am not talking about the game and I don't give a damn who won or lost. I'm solely talking about the incident, not the soccer game.

This nothing to do with who won (sheesh, try reading the question).

Congratulations to Italy for winning, okay?

The point is that is it ironic that Zindane reacted to provocation and was punished (fair enough--he deserved it) but the person who provoked him (who by the way has admitted that he did it) is the one who has been portrayed as a victim.

And that sadly is what happens to bullies in the "real" world too. The bullied are driving to retaliation, but the bullies never seem to get caught. It's ironic that the so-called "zero tolerance" policies don't seem to stop bullies (who can get around the rules) but more often than not end up in the victims of bullying being punished for defending themselves.

Italy won fair and square (on penalties, but that's how sometimes things go in soccer). They are rightfully "smelling like roses" like you said. If Materazzi said something against the rules, Fifa will suspend him. Zidane was punished because what he did is a red-card foul in soccer. France wasn't punished at all. They just lost on penalties.

ADDITION
Yes, I read the question, and I wrote if Materazzi said something against the rules (i.e. a racist slur) he will get punished too. Fifa will probably give him a suspension. I honestly don't think that most people or the media regard him as a victim. He got the headbutt, but that's it. The one that has really been portrayed as a victim is Zidane, and to some extent, he is. The punishment he received (the red card) was fair, though.

Because no proof, no punishment.

People only SAW Zidane's reaction to the insults and nobody, except Zidane, could hear what Materazzi's said.

Materazzi is a sly, cunning, calculating, mean,

To Christina -- No wonder you are for Materazzi, you actually talk like him! You and Marco fellow are the shame of your beautiful country which I adore.

probably for the same reason that sore losers make stupid comments and look like heroes while the winners retaliate with smart comments and are called a**holes :)
VIVA ITALIA! FORZA AZZURRI E FORZA MATERAZZI!!!
