I am ashamed to say that I used to be a Democrat. I agree with the people who think JFK would be ashamed today also. He was not likeTed. To the one who said Republican don't think for themselves I say you have it backwards Sir. Which party made Michael Moore so much richer? If you think the right followed that pied piper you are wrong.
Democrats have changed big time, but a lot of people are willing not to see it.

Probably a better question would be:
What does the lack of support for the Democratic Party and his fellow Democrats say about Joe Lieberman?

The lack of respect is mutual. Joe, knowing he can't win as a Bush-supporting Democrat in liberal Connecticut, has abandoned the Democratic Party to run as an independent. In reality, Lieberman left the Democrats in spirit a long time ago.

Why would the Democrats want to support someone who wasn't going to support them?

Bungi is right. Democrats have changed a lot since the time of JFK. Republicans have changed a lot over the last 40 years too. Neither is centrally positioned, anymore. Both seem to be pandering to the extremes, and ignoring those of us who seek a middle ground.

But I will say this:
As much money as Michael Moore has made off of pandering to the left, Limbaugh and Coulter have made tenfold pandering to the right. I can't think of anyone actively pandering to the middle. Maybe there's just no money in it because those are the people who can think for themselves.

That being said, I don't like Leiberman. Not because he's a hawk or a Bush-supporter. I don't like him because he has strayed from the ideals of the party he says he belongs to. That makes him a liar. I don't like most of the Republicans and Democrats in Washington, for exactly the same reason.

His decision to back certain Bush policies, most especially the Iraq War, has angered liberals. There is a fair chance that he will not win the Democratic nomination to defend his senate seat as the incumbent.

The modern Democratic party is trying to shift back a little left, and stake out territory as somewhat socially responsible, but they must be realistic as well. I hope the loss of Liberman does not also mean the loss of the seat. Liberman has very good broad support to win the seat in a general election.

It says if one wants to be a Republican, then one should join the Republican party and run for re-election as a Republican.

Being a "moderate", and voting your conscience is a good thing. There are members of the Democratic party who do that already. Continually voting with the opposing party, supporting all of their positions, and kissing the *** of their leader is quite different. Why is Lieberman insisting on running as a Democrat, if he clearly is not? (Obviously, it's because he lives in Connecticut, and would lose if he ran as a Republican....one of those "wacky" liberal states, don't ya know....)

What would most Republicans do if a member of the Republican party started being an active environmentalist, started helping the poor, and worked against the oil companies interest?

That we have no control over the process.. Joe Liberman is about as ballsy as tiny tim.. we need someone that can say.. BS , lets get it back to the people and stop letting these false liberals dominate our party.

Liberals sheer the sheep
Reactionaries slaughter the sheep
Radicals break down the fence and let the sheep find greener pastures..
We need a Radical !!!!
