...big time. i was moving out of my apartment and came across several boxes with all of my old schoolwork saved from 4 years of college. my sister convinced me to get rid of it since i hadnt looked at any of it in the last couple of years, but now i feel like ive thrown away an important part of my life and i can't seem to get over it.

most of it was old hw assignments and tests, which i admit is pretty useless now, but i still would've liked to have kept them if only for their sentimental value.

it seemed like a good idea to recycle the papers at the time, since i was also throwing out a bunch of unnecessary clutter (old magazines, etc...) but i guess i was just in a 'cleaning mode' and not really thinking clearly.

has anyone else done the same thing and regretted it? or am i the only one who bothered keeping my schoolwork in the first place, like my sister claims?

I held on to all my old work for a long time. I felt like I'd worked so hard on it all that I didn't want to throw it away. But, what you've got to think is that the whole purpose of doing all this work was to earn your degree (and learn). What's the point of holding on to all that junk? I occasionally looked through my stuff. I felt proud of myself after reading some old essays. But, in no way did holding on to this stuff better my life. Once I threw it away I felt a little sad; but now, I don't regret it at all. I don't think you will regret it over time.

I still have most of my notebooks and projects from college. Some stuff I was able to throw away, but it depended heavily on how much time and effort was put into it in the first place. I will maybe reach the point someday where holding onto it won't seem as important as clearing the space it occupies, but that time isn't now.

Why would you want to keep them? Especially if you haven't looked at them in over two years? What information is in there that you can't find on the internet? Is there something else making you want to keep these things?

My husband kept his papers and books for years and never looked at them. But once he got over the idea that he had to prove himself to his family, he was able to get rid of everything.
