Its all about dominance. Mean girls put the other girls down, displaying their superiority as a leader. This, in turn, causes others to submit in order to avoid a fight. Not a very "human" answer, but that's the driving mechanism. But don't worry, those who are popular today die alone tomarrow.

well yah thats a good point i hate mean girls. I had a bff in grade 6 and then in grade 7 she and another girl became all close and then they turned into superbitches and now that we're older they aint even popular anymore like nobody wants to be them all they do is have sex and drink and hurt eachother. But yah in my small town the nice girls are popular and i think that's the way it should be-the well rounded girls that treat everyone equally and have self respect! I like ur question though its good to know other girls ask that other than just me

mean girls are popular because they are intimidating. people allow them to be on top because everyone is scared of them and doesnt want the mean girls to hate them. its all in everybodys head and its pretty much middle school stuff. highschool is so much better. and if its going on in highschool, just ignore it and be with the friends that make you happy. i hate people who try to be popular because its like.."why would you want to be friends with people who put you down and never talked to you when you werent popular.." i mean its just crazy. i mean im popular but like im not mean to people. its just some girls. and they will get bit in the *** for it later in life.

Because ppl are intimadated by them and some boys are scared of them and suck ups i'm popular as well and I don't put anyone down I even lend ppl I don't know money so ugh thats some popular females but everyone talks about them behind there backs anyways oh and at my school most of them excluding me are just ugly ho**

I don't know why they are popular. I'm popular but I'm not mean. I'm known by my grades you know, but being popular isn't everything, its just something that came along. I didn't ask to be popular, I didn't beg to be popular. In my eyes, everyone is popular in their own special way, and there are people that recognize these people for who they really are, that's how I am, people recognized me for me. But popularity isn't everything.

Well I'm thinking becuz the are like thinking "oh im popular. oh im rich. oh im the best at everything. oh im SO pretty". so thats why the turn out to be snobs and NOBODY likes a snob do they? and for being mean, they want friends so they be mean and they kinda order people to be their friends. or, they dont want friends. just ignore miss. populars.

My experience has been that the mean popular girls turn out to be unhappy, divorced, lonely women as they get older.

they are only popular because every one is scared of them so they wont be mean to them..so that means everyone is either nice to them or just ignores them
