First of all, I'll start by saying I'm christian, so you know I'm not biased.
There! First of all, it's just nature, some people are just stupid. Some are not but are incredibly close-minded, and cant see past what they believe. I have a lot of Muslim friends whom i can confidently say are not terrorists. They're just like every other person, but with different religious beliefs.
So yes, there are close minded people. On the other hand, however, there are people who just don't have enough or the right exposure. There are people that have been told all their lives that Muslims are terrorists, and therefore no nothing to the contrary. These people, very likely, will not know any Muslims personally and will go on to believe just that.
Then again, there's the media. Of course, the media comes into everything. Most of what the media broadcasts (in America at least) give the impression that Muslims equal terrorism. So, for those people that depend upon the media for information and trust them to deliver the facts, they get mislead. Again, these people can be classified as ignorant and close-minded, but also, you can't blame them much.
