A series that ran a long time so that there would be many episodes that each deal with very different situations. Maybe Star Trek Next Generation.

If I have to select from the current batch of shows, I'd just give up TV.

I'd pick Star Trek the Next Generation or the Simpsons because there are lots of episodes to watch. You would definitely not want to pick a series that got cancelled after only a few episodes or you would get tired of it very quickly.
