Syd was simply amazing, and there would have been no Pink Floyd without him. He was the creative genius behind all the early work and the band's first album, "Piper at the Gates of Dawn". His style was completely original and utterly inimitable, though people tried.
It's unfair to look at Syd as a case for the "war on drugs"... he had mental health issues that went well beyond LSD. It's also unfair to write off his life that way, as though he wasted it. He didn't. Even in his later years, tending his mother's garden, who's to say that's any more or less a waste than any other life?
His most lasting contribution here on earth, however, is undoubtedly his music. And through it, he will shine on. Rest well, Syd.

I was so sad when I heard he died, I'm still like having a mental break down. I wish I could've known him... The strangest thing was that I bought a "Wish You Were Here" shirt online the night before they announced his death. That day I was even wearing my DSOTM shirt. Even though he was gone for a long time, he was never really 'gone'. We love you, Roger Barret. Shine on forever you Crazy Diamond. "Nobody knows where you are, How near of how far"... I havn't heard of any events or anything but if there are any I'd love to go. Syd, you madcap genius.

I love Syd. Even his strangest lyrics make sense to me. He also wrote my favourite song of all time 'See Emily Play', I've sat and listened to that song on repeat for hours.
So many of his lyrics are racing through my head now, like 'Won't you miss me? Wouldn't you miss me at all?' (from Dark Globe), 'You feel me away far too empty. Oh so alone, I want to go home' (from Feel), 'Streaming through the starlit sky' and 'Yippee! You can't see me but I can you' (both from Flaming).
I've never felt so bad about the death of someone I've never met, I didn't know him personally but I felt like he was my friend.

He's a good anti-drug ad. Have you heard that story about him showing up at the recording of Crazy Diamond and he was compulsively brushing his teeth?
