Please, aside from you position on the war (a simple "for" "against" or "undecided" will do), tell me what you feel is really happening. I won't state my political position, but I feel strongly that Americans have not been told the entire truth as to why exactly we are still fighting. I know that there are valid reasons (prevent genocide) but I really would like to know the BIG picture. I can't stand being ignorant and have not gotten a straight answer from any one website, news station, or personal opinion. I appreciate your intellectual imput.

At this point it is basically a civil war as different factions are trying to gain control of the Iraqi government. We are still there trying to maintain some semblance of order until a stable government can be put in place - preferably one that has policies that are more democratic and not anti-US.

It's very possible that the suddenly and unjustified invasion of Iraq, among other things, came about because Iraq's president Saddam was considering switching from US dollar to the euro as its currency exchange for marketing its oil. It's no secret that there wasn't a good relationship between the US and Iraq, and removing the US from its currency based privileged position presented a real threat - http://www.ccc.nps.navy.mil/si/nov03/middleEast.asp

Like the imperialistic Great Britain, the US government will not leave Iraq willingly until it is re-assured it is dictating to the Iraqis.

You currently have a bunch of foreign fighters trying to put a wedge in between 2 different groups of muslims. This is so they can try to get a civil war between the two. The US is trying to help train the Iraqis to police themselves, but with more and more fighters crossing into Iraq from Syria and Iran it is making it difficult.

What is happening is that the allies are spending collosal amounts of money to help people who dont want our help. Its all one huge balls up, that as well as the huge cost in monetary terms, it's all the young lads are dying there for nothing.
Mission accomplished?
