I agree with the some of the above answers, I have lots of scars after an accident several years ago, and was told to massage any kind of emmolient into them - e45 cream or aqueous cream is best I think - it makes the skin more flexible and stops the hypergranulation. This is where the damaged skin overcompensates for the damage and builds more and more skin layers over each other - hence the scarring. You could also ask your doctor about pressure garments. These are tight fitting garments that press down on the scars and also stop the build up of scar tissue. They are not very comfortable but they DO work. However, having said all this, I have learned to sod what people think and wear my scars with pride, they are a part of me now and who cares what people think. Good luck! PS however I have to add they probably won't go completely. Mine haven't but I do believe they are not as bad as they would have been if I hadn't done the above.

Theres a product called Mederma for scars from www.dermadoctor.com thats supposed to be the number 1 recommended product by doctors for surgical scars. It comes with a money back gurantee if it doesn't improve the apperance within 8 weeks (it is expensive though by the time you pay delivery). I have been using it a couple of days now so I cant comment on how good it is as yet but I'll let you know in a few months (unless you want to try it for yourself). Good Luck : )

cosmetic surgery is the only way to reduce scars, but this still leaves you with a scar only a more discreet one. All these creams on the market are money making stunts so don't get sucked in, they aren't worth it, there are ways of disguising scars with make up, but if you are worried about people not finding you attractive because of a scar then they are shallow and you are worthy are far better people in your life. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Along with the other suggestions you can also try Aloe Vera Gel, not the store brought kind but the actual Gel that you buy from the Health Food Store. Aloe Vera is very good for scars, drys them up.

Vitamin E (oil form if you can get it) will really help fade scars. I have abdominal scarring also and it worked for me. I swear by it. Check your local pharmacy. They'll never disappear but if the scars are not too old vit. E will fade them nicely.

Good Luck!

There are some over-the-counter Scar Removing creams and/or patches that you can be at a drug store. Also try Cocoa Butter, also available at a local drug store.

I'm no doctor: but to the best of my knowledge you can not get rid of a permanent scar.

You could try covering them in makeup, but that could be a little awkward and impractical.

The only other option I know of is surgery.

If it is causing you real problems: try discussing the problem with your doctor.
