If you are only feeding her when she is crying her head off, you are *underfeeding* her, not overfeeding!! Crying is a *late* sign of hunger; you are missing her early cues entirely.
Moreover, her weight is just above the 50th percentile. 48% of all girl babies her age are *bigger* than her.
And, lastly, if you are nursing, you should know that the average breastfed baby needs to nurse a lot more than once every 4 hours. Once every 2 hours is more typical.
Please feed the baby. She is going to suffer from your refusing to feed her when she is hungry!!

My son is 10-months old and weighs 18 pounds. I think it really depends on each baby and how much they weighed at birth. My baby was only 6 p 1 o at birth and he is still a little small for his age, but he eats all the time. Try feeding her cereal a couple of times a day. Also maybe some apple juice between a bottle. Mae sure it has equal water and that she does not have more than a bottle a day or it will dive her diarrhea. She sounds perfectly healthy. Cubby babies are so cute!!!!

Every child is different and I cannot imagine any doctor telling you that a 5 month old baby was too fat. Every four hours is appropriate to feed that age baby. My first son was 18 pounds at 5 months and my daughter is only 15 pounds at 7 months. All kids are different. It also depends on how tall she is. You can ask your doctor or check out some of the height and weight charts to see what percentile she falls into. I just checked on the one I use and it puts your daughter into the 50th to 75th percentile-that is perfect! You can look yourself at:

your baby is within the 50 percentile range for her age. Almost exactly average. I would recommend four feeds per day as she is old enough to go through the night without feeding now. If she is on formula then give her a little more per feed, also. Does she watch you eat, she may be ready for solids. My little girl started at five months. Try a week with a few table spoons of baby rice mixed into a little formula three times a day plus her normal feeds.
Also, I never recommend on demand feeding. Feed her every four hours and you wont go wrong, her weight is fine

Every baby is different. My daughter is 11 months and only weighs 17 lbs, while my sister's baby is 2 1/2 months and weighs 11 lbs already. I say, if she eats then shes probably hungry. At 5 months she should still be eating every 4 hrs or so.

Now this depends on if you are feeding her just milk or have you moved to gerber foods yet. If not you should get some of the Gerber rice cereal and put one ounce in her milk and she will be more full and it might not be every 4 hours. But other than that just feed her on demand who cares?!! If she hungry feed her mama!!! :) Babys can't be fat, fat just watch her on the sweets and candies when she gets older!

I think your baby is just fine.My baby is 13lbs. & will be 6 months next week.I feed her every 4 hours during the day & give her a jar of baby food for dinner with her bottle. Her last bottle is at 7:45 as she goes to be at 8:00.There are times she does get hungry between feeding times so I give her a bottle then also.

No! You are not feeding her too much! Babies are all different in terms of how often they eat...my daughter is six months and eats about every 21/2 to 3 hours. And when you say "she is fat" is that by your standard or does the pediatrician say she has gained "too much" weight?? If your ped, is not worried about it, I wouldnt worry. Feed her when she is hungry.

5 months and 16 pound to me would be a normal baby! My son at 5 months weighed 20lbs, and the doctor told me he was fine, I don't think you should worry about it either. No baby is fat!
