That depends on what it is. If it's a question of my pen rolling off the desk, a few seconds is probably enough to determine that it's not temporary. If it's a question of how long a democracy will last, you need a few decades to decide if it's stable enough to count as not temporary.

I've been invovled with something for over 2yrs and still think of it as temporary and able to change in the blink of an eye. After all, we're never certain of what tomorrow may bring, right? And isn't life a temporal state? Seems to me nothing is permanent.

i mean on what scale...
temporary like a nanosecond
temporary like a second
temporary like a minute
like an hour, week, month, year?
Temporary like only for 2 or 3 centuries, like an ice age?
Temporary like a solar system doesn't last forever only a couple billion years.
i mean i guess everything is temporary.
