No matter how hard i try i can't seem to get this mildew smell out of my bedroom. I wash the carpet and it's good for a week and then the smell comes back. And the humidity doesn't help ? Does anyone have any suggestions please...

i think the carpet isn't fully drying inbetween washings. open ALL of your windows when you do it, and keep them open for days. Don't put anything back on it until you know for sure it's dry.

it might be time to have someone clean it professionally for you.

Could you bedroom be located with a wall to the bath next to it. If so, you could possibly have a small water leak that is running under your carpet and mildewing. I would certainly check all water lines and if I had to, pull the carpet up to make sure I didn't have some type of damage in the flooring. I once kept watering a plant that was setting on the carpeted floor. It would over run the drip pan and the bacteria in the soil got into the carpet and we simply had to replace the carpet. We could not find anything to kill the mold without damaging the carpet, so we pulled the mess, threw the plant out and put down hardwood. I know that is drastic, but if you have allergies or sensitive smell, it's quite overwhelming when you cannot find the problem. Another time we steam cleaned the bedroom and were not aware the steam cleaner was not pulling all the water out of the carpet and it molded on us. I wanted to make the maker of the cleaner buy new carpet but I didn't. We rented a commercial steam cleaner and added lots of baking soda, this cleaner actually heated the water and applied steam and it took care of the problem. You may try renting a commercial steam cleaner. Just because they rent them, doesn't mean they work properly. Happy smells to you...........PS/ Even if you buy a dehumidifier, the mold will have to be killed and start dry for the smells to clear up.....

All the de- humidity and vinagar ideas are great and true. I would add that a pie tin of dry coffee grounds under the bed or in some other hidden spot will suck up odors very well until the others kick in. Don't clean the carpet too often, you are adding to the problem. Good luck.

Try using a machine that takes out excess moisture in the air this will help make the air dry. The mildew grow because of the dampness in the air and carpet .

I suggest, if the floors under your carpet are in good shape, tear up the carpet and trash it...each time you wash your carpet it more than likely dries top to bottom...which gives mold a perfect growing environment....and you are defeating the whole purpose! Not to mention wasting your energy. Carpets are usually not a very good idea in damp/high humidity areas...wooden floors or tiles are the way to go. Good luck

Good question!

I think I'd try shampooing the carpet with vinegar early on a dry and preferrably hot day! It really needs a chance to dry quickly. I'd also consider trying to help it dry by using a space heater.

One other thought comes to mind. Is it possible you have some rot beneath the carpet, in the floorboards?

Replace the carpet. The mildew has gotten down into your carpet pad.

Try this product it is biodegradable and does better than common bleach products that tend to add moisture after the cleaning is done.

Other than this I suggest you tear up the carpet apply another treatment of Moldzyme then lay a new carpet and pad. Also try a dehumidifier to the room.
